Set S is formed by selecting some of the numbers from the first 110 natural numbers such that the HCF of any two numbers in the set is the same. If every pair of numbers of set S has to be relatively prime and set S has the maximum number of elements possible, then in how ways can the set S be selected?
400+ IIM MBAs Petition PM Modi to Amend IIM Bill: Ensure MBA Degree Is Exclusive to India's only Globally Accredited MBA: One Year MBA!
All possible pairs are formed from the divisors of 21600. How many such pairs have HCF of 45?
If you don't get the logic, try making all the cases.
Two numbers are 45a and 45b, 21600 can be written as 2^5*3^3*5^2, remove 45 so for a,b 2^5*3*5.
The prime factors which emerge from here are 2,2^2,2^3,2^4,2^5,3,5.
If we take a pair of prime we get 11 numbers
if we take pair of two prime, prime we get 15 such no,
for 1,prime we get 7 such pairs, 1,
two prime we get 11 such pairs and 1,three prime we get 5 such pairs so, total 49 pairs.
@matrix4ever I didn't know of the formula posted above. Can come handy as well
A treacherous fruit vendor, while purchasing apples from the wholesaler, manages to receive 25% more apples than the quantity for which he pays. He cheats his customers as well and while selling the apples to them he delivers (50/3) % less apples than the quantity for which the customers pay. If he claims to sell the apples at their cost price, find his net profit percentage.

A 10 L cylinder contains a mixture of water and sugar, the volume of sugar being 15% of total volume. A fesi litres of the mixture is released and an equal amount of water is added. Then, the same amount of the mixture as before is released and replaced with watel for a second time. As a result, the sugar content becomes 10% of total volume. What is the approximate quantity of mixture released each time?
a. 1 L
b. 1.2 L
c. 1.5 L
d. 2 L
e. 2.2 L
(Please explain with solution).
Both the options c and d are very close. Option d gives 9.6% of total volume and option c gives 10.8% of total volume.
The Howrah-Puri express can move at 45 km/h without its rake and the speed is diminished by a constant that varies as the square root of the number of wagons attached. If it is known that with 9 wagons, the speed is 30 km/h, what is the greatest number of wagons with which the train can just move?
@81 Wagons the train will stop. So the maximum pulling capacity is 80 wagons where the train CAN JUST MOVE ... My bad.. Dint read just move..

fill in the blanks using these numbers. ( 1,3,5,7,9,11,13,15) u can also repeat the numbers
we can see that equality cant be true if the equation is represented in an even base( assuming the numbers are used as it is not changing form)
because for an even base n the right hand side will always give an even number and each of the left hand side numbers will always be odd
so sum of 3 odd numbers cant fetch and even number. lets see what happens when the base n is odd then right hand side (30) is odd equal to 3n now left if on left hand side a number greater than 10 ( 11,13,15) is represented in base n it would be even as both the digits are odd and if less than 10(1,3,5,7,9) are picked then in base n they all would be odd.
so if we want to make the left side odd we have two options
1) pick three numbers from less than 10
lets say 5+7+9 then these all should be less than the base n so their sum can never be equal to (3n ie30)
2) pick one number less than10 and 2numbers larger than10
so lets say we pick 11 and 13 and any number x smaller than 10
so x + n+1 + n+3 = 3n => n = x+4
lets say x = 7 so our base is 11.....one solution can be
7 + 11 + 13 = 30 (all in base 11)
7 + 12 + 14 = 33 ( conversion in base 10)
so u can find other solutions also for various other bases.

person who has 3 sons.
He asked her about the ages of her 3 sons. She told him that "today is birthday of all of my 3 sons. The product of their ages is 36 and the sum of their ages is my neighbour's house number, which you have already visited."
Then he asked her for one more clue. She told him that her eldest son came 2nd in his class.
After that he knows the ages of the 3 sons correctly.
What are ages of the 3 sons?
For this type of questions first clue is given to make out all the possible outcomes(i.e. sample space). Second is given for arriving at a definite answer. But in this case second clue creates a confusion because two cases gives same sum. That is the reason why third clue is asked for in the first place. And from that comes the answer.
An old woman goes to market and a horse steps on her basket and crashes the eggs. The rider offers to pay for the damages and asks her how many eggs she had brought. She does not remember the exact number, but when she had taken them out two at a time, there was one egg left. The same happened when she picked them out three, four, five, and six at a time, but when she took them seven at a time they came out even. What is the smallest number of eggs she could have had?

cos^2 2a + (sin^2 a + cos^2 a)(sin^4 a + cos^4 a - sin^2 a * cos^2 a)+ 7*(1+sin2a)
cos^2 2a + (sin^2 a + cos^2 a)^2 - 3* sin^2 a * cos^2 a+ 7*(1+sin2a)
1 - sin^2 2a + 1 - 3/4* sin^2 2a+ 7*(1+sin2a)

Hi guys, I still dint get the answer, can someone please explain
What will be the remainder when 19^n 16, where n = 23^34?
What is the euler no. in this case?
can someone tell me whats wrong with this approach?3^23^34=(((3^4)^5.3^3)^34)=(81^5.3^3)^34=3^102mod16=((3^4)^25.3^2)mod16=9mod16=9 !!i have used 81mod16=1 everywhere
What is the remainder when 7^7^7^7^7^7^7.......infinity is divided by 13?
a. 5 b. 6 c. 7 d. None of These
E(13)=12,E(12)=4,E(4)=2..........so N mod 13=7^(N mod 12) mod 13= 7^7^(N mod 4) mod 13= 7^7^7^(N mod 2) mod 13= 7^7 mod 13 =6
I dont get it. why do we need euler of 12 and 4 and how did u evaluate the last portion "7^7^7^(N mod 2) mod 13= 7^7 mod 13 =6" ?
1. If x = 2, N is divisible by 17 and y is the 17th digit from the right, y =
(1) 1 (2) 2 (3) 3 (4) 0
2. If N is divisible by 13, x = 3 and y is the ith digit from the left, then i could be
(1) 24 (2) 8 (3) 42 (4) 34 (5) None of these
3. Consider the 51-digit number mi (1 ≤ i ≤ 51) with y in the ith place from the left and an all other digits equal to x. If M4 is divisible by 13, then which of the following must also be divisible by 13?,
(1) M15 (2) M25 (3) M46 (4) M48
4. If (x, y) = (2, 1) and we define Mi as in the previous question, for how many Values of I is Mi is divisible by 17?
(1) 3 (2) 4 (3) 8 (4) 9
the sum of the digits of a four digit number, consisting of non-zero digits, is a perfect square. The number formed by the first two digits and the number formed by the last two digits are perfect squares. If the number itself is a perfect square, then the difference between the second and the third digits of the number is?
calculating squares is quite easy with this trick......For any two digit number (say AB) between 25 and 75, the square will be CDEF where EF are the last two digits of (50-AB)^2 and CD is equal to AB-25 {or AB-25+the hundredth place digit of (50-AB)^2 if any}..........For any two digit number (say AB) between 75 and 100, the square will be CDEF where EF are the last digits of (100-AB)^2 and CD is equal to 2*AB-100 {or 2*AB-100+the hundredth place digit of (100-AB)^2 if any}
i simply made pairs of 2 digit square numbers that add up to give a square. was left with 4 options(1636,1681,2536,2581) in around 40 sec. had to do some multiplications to eliminate the other 3( almost 30-40 secs more). Thats why i asked for a shortcut
793 can be expressed as the sum of two positive numbers a perfect square and a perfect cube. Find the sum of the digits of the larger number.
I did by random guessing, I imagined the nearest square in 700 range and subtracted from 793 and luckily it was a perfect cube
below 793, largest cube is 9^3 and lowest is 1^3 ....so at max. 9 hits and trials....not a hefty process at all
What is the maximum possible integer value of p if 7 × 8 × 9 × 10 × ... ×135 = n × (720)p, where n is a natural number?
for this questions:
for how many four digit numbers, is the thousands digit greater than tens and tens greater than unit?
OA:1200
my doubt: for the thousand digit we dont take into consideration 0 right, so 3 numbers selected can be 9c3?
but its actually 10c3 why
@shrena let the 4-digit number be (abcd)..now see you can put it in this way..there are 10 digits (0,1,2,3..9)..now you have to select three of them for a,c,d and that you can do in 10c3 ways and after selecting any three digits you can arrange them in only 1 way due to the given condition of a>c>d..after that for the hundred's place digit i.e. for b you have 10 choices.so the answer is 10c3 * 10= 1200.. that 10c3 will take care of your "0" thing..see how it works if say you have chosen- 0,7,1 now for this a-7, c-1, d-0, for no case a will be taking the value of "0". hope u get it..
If thousands greater than 10s, then anyway it can never be 0. So we need not bother with that condition, it is automatically fulfilled.

Take radius of smaller circle as, say x. Join the center of both circles, so that the length of the line joining two centers is (1+x). Drop a verical perpendicular from the center of the smaller circle onto the square base such the length of the perpendicular is (2-x). Now the distance of the center of the semi circle from the point on the square where the perpendicular from smaller circle was dropped will become (1-x). Now you have a right triangle with these three sides and (1+x) as hypotenuse. Apply Pythagoras theorem and solve quadratic eqn. to get 'x'.

for x>=0, y= 3^x - (x+2) ; at x=0, y= -1; at x = infinity, y= infinity. So, graph (whatever) y cross x axis once i.e. for one x y=0. so, 1st root here. 3^x increase exponentially, so after that curve Y tells x-axis bye bye.
For x<0, at x=-1, y= negative; at x=-2, y= positive. Y cross x-axis again here, so 2nd root. 3^x decrease expo. So, x decides value of y. Again, y tells x-axis bye bye.
enjoy !

A robot is designed to move in a peculiar way and it can be set in motion by a microprocessor program. The program can be initiated by assigning a positive rational value to its variable n. Once initiated, the program directs the robot to move in the following way. As soon as the program is started, the robot (which is initially facing North) starts from the point O, moves 2nmetres northward and then changes its direction by n° to the right. It then moves 2n metres forward and again changes its direction by n° to the right and continues in this manner till it again reaches the starting point O, or till it covers a total distance of 1000 m, whichever happens first, and then it stops.
For how many values of n in interval [1,60] does robot cover les than 1000m before it stops?

find the maximum value of (3/a+b)/(2a-3b) if -3≤a≤3 and -2≤b≤5?
the 7th and 21st terms of an ap are 6 and -22 respectively. Find the 26th term.
-34 OR -32
please solve this with explanation.
-32. a+6d=6,a+20d=-22.solve these 2 equations we get d=-2,put this value in first equation u ll get a =18.i hope aage u can do it
((12!)^12!)/13! . WHAT IS THE REMAINDER?
CAN SOMEBODY ANSWER THIS?
solution.... take 12! common from both numerator and denominator. remaining would be as, (12![12!]^12!-1)/12!*13 => what we took 12! as common will directly be multiplied to the remainder of of remaining figure that is=>](12!)^12!-1]/13 this can be solved now as follows =>[12!^12!*12!^-1]/13 =>[12!^12!]/13=rem1 and {12!^-1]/13=rem -1 = 13-1 = 12 so at end 12! will get multipled to 12. therefore answer is 12!*12

a ball rolls on the floor of a rectangular room of base 8m * 5m. It deflects after hitting the wall of the room. The ball starts rolling from one corner of the room and moves at an angle of 45degree towards the opposite side of the room.Everytime after hitting, it gets deflected such that its line of travel is perpendicular to its privious path.Find, after how many minimum deflections, it will reach any corner of the room
Koi shortcut ho toh explain karo.!
Pardon me for posting this sort of stuff on this thread, but considering the staggering number of followers that this thread has, it makes perfect sense to do so.
I have been preparing for CAT 2014 for while a while now (around 9 months or so). Have been scoring decent marks, not great though. Apparently, since the last month I have lost of the motivation that drove me, I have lost interest, I have developed an aversion towards Mocks. Everything seems so repetitive.
People tell me that mine is a classic case of 'Burn-out'. Most of the enthusiasm that I had initially has waned off. I look forward to things / activities that most of the CAT aspirants avoid doing at this time. I have already revised most of my notes, and going through the same notes over and over again depresses me. People usually pick up speed at this time, on the other hand, I am slacking. This bothers me, I should be studying, practicing and revising and I sometimes do but the bout of motivation is lost in midst of the toil. AIMCATs demoralize me and sitting for a mock seems to be such a difficult task now.
Just wanted to know if there are people like me, who have also faced or facing such an issue. What should I do? Aren't you guys bored? How do you manage to keep adrenaline pumping?
PS: I have put a temporary moratorium on mocks. Would start appearing for them from the weekend.
Also I am a working professional.
I suggest to review placement report of top b schools . crude as it may sound BT it might click for u.

This works for me: Take a mock. Get a very low score in it. Motivate yourself to do well next time

In how many ways 8 balls of different colours can be placed in 3 identical boxes if each box contains atleast 1 ball
See the boxes are identical so we only need to worry about selection not the arrangement. See, there will be 5 selections, [ 611 - 8C2 = 28 : 521 - 8C5*3C2 = 168 : 413 - 8C4*4C3 = 280 : 422 - (8C4*4C2) /2 = 210 : 332 - (8C3*5C3)/2 = 280.] Total = 28 + 168 + 280 + 210 + 280 = 966.

it is given that f(x) = P^x,g(x) = (-p)^x ,; h(x) = (1/p)^x , k(x) = (-1/p)^x then how this one is true. g(x) and h(x) can exist outside real domain
guys let me know how to attach a file in post. I have a lot of high funda questions to ask
Apples are bought at 10 for a rupee and an equal number more at 15 for a rupee. If these are sold at 11 for a rupees. Find the loss or gain percent.
I am not able to solve it can anyone help.
it is given that , a^(n-3) + a^(n - 5) b^2 + ..+ b^(n-3) = 0, where p and q != 0 and n is odd then (a^n - b^n )(a + b)/ (a^n + b^n)(a - b) =
Each of the numbers x1, x2, .....,xn, n > 4, is equal to 1 or -1. Suppose, x1x2x3x4 + x2x3x4x5 + x3x4x5x6 + ....... + xn-3xn-2xn-1xn + xn-2xn-1xnx1 + xn-1xnx1x2 + xnx1x2x3 = 0, then,
please explain clearly. There is no use if you people answer without explanation. This blog is for discussion and not for answering questions
Let ABC be an equilateral triangle.Let P and S be points on AB and AC respectively, and let Q and R be points on BC such that PQRS is a rectangle. If PQ=√3PS and the area of PQRS is 28√3,what is the length of PC?
Also give the solution.
value of log (e(e(e......)^1/2)^1/2)^1/2

Guys whats your take on this. Is this true?
Hi Friends good evening,Last year I took the coaching from time institute and got only 80 Percentile.I have attempted only 6 to 7 Aimcats which made me to get low percentile though I was confident on many areas.so I decided to take as many Mock cats as possible.I Have taken testseries from Ims and Planning to take testseries from some other institute.
Please do suggest me which test series would be best one Time or career launcher or anything else?
Guys which CAT test series is better? Times or CL?
Ims mocks are most balanced. Time is good if we see no of test takers.cl comes in between time and ims.
